local sights

hautfort

This beautiful Chateau is definitely one of our favourites and we visit every year.   A favourite film location and with good reason, the views are just amazing!  Inside you'll find period furnishings, a film about the era and a gift shop.

Brantome Police Horses

Giles and I support this local charity, run by Roland & Allison Phillips, where you will find ex Police and Military horses in happy and well-earned retirement from the Metropolitan Police and the Somerset & Avon counties.  Other animals also live here, donkeys, sheep, chickens, goats, dogs and many more, a real draw for children.

They open their doors to the public every week for the better part of the year, with Tours and Cream Teas on offer in Summer, booking ahead is required.  We highly recommend a visit, particularly as they are rated the Number 1 attraction in the Dordogne.

La Grotte de Villars

These caves are very good, not particularly extensive, but certainly enough for a morning or afternoon visit.  Good family fun with the obligatory gift shop of course.
